Bias-aware AI screening: what good looks like

Resume screening is the part of hiring most people want to automate, and for good reason: reading a thousand CVs by hand is slow and inconsistent. But an AI that learns from your past hires can just as easily learn your past mistakes.

Good screening scores candidates against the role's actual requirements (the must-have skills and experience you defined before you saw a single application), not against a lookalike of whoever you hired last time. That distinction is the whole game.

It should also be transparent. If the tool ranks a candidate low, you should be able to see why, and disagree. Screening that hides its reasoning isn't saving you time; it's making decisions you can't defend later.

Finally, keep a human in the loop for every advance. AI is excellent at surfacing a shortlist from a large pool and terrible at judging the things that actually make someone great at a job. Use it to do the reading, not the deciding.
